What is a drone?

How long can drones fly?

There is a wide range of drones available that can range between minutes to hours depending on the type of platform and application. Some of the more popular consumer level drones can fly on average between 5 to 30 minutes. A lot of variables such as wind speed, payload and size/type of aircraft can affect the flight range and duration of a drone.

What is the process to operate a drone in the U.S.?

In order to operate a drone in the United States, you first need to understand which agency manages the airspace and what type of drone flyer you’re going to be. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for all the governing rules and policies faa.gov/uas.

What is the maximum load a drone can carry?

The maximum payload a drone can carry depends on its manufacturing specifications.

Do I need a license to operate a drone?

It depends on the type of drone and intended use. Here faa.gov/uas/getting_started/user_identification_tool/ is the FAA tool to identify if you need to be licensed or not to operate a drone.

Are Scout Drone USA, certified remote pilots licensed by the FAA?

Yes, all Scout Drone USA pilots are FAA licensed remote pilots.

Do you need insurance to fly a drone?

All Scout Drone USA managed projects and contractors are required to carry insurance protection. The amount of insurance required can be negotiated and will depend on the type/size/cost of the project and liability.

How do you manage privacy when flying a drone?

We respect private property and privacy laws.

Are drones only good for video and aerial photography?

No, drone technology and capabilities extend well beyond video and aerial photography. Drones are increasingly being used in a variety of commercial, scientific and medical applications. Examples include, construction, mining, environmental surveys, search and rescue, medicine delivery, etc. Drone technology is constantly evolving and its applications are growing rapidly.
